El pasado 29 de abril, se celebró en Asunción el
sorteo de la 9a. edición de la Supercopa "Joâo
Havelange" y de la 5a. Copa CONMEBOL, a disputarse este año.
Un numeroso contingente de delegados de clubes y asociaciones
de todo el continente asistió a la conformación
de los calendarios, en otra pauta del notable interés que
despiertan ambas competiciones. La Supercopa con un cuadro de
17 participantes comenzará el 25 de septiembre y finalizará
el 27 de noviembre, aunque por el número de contendientes
es preciso incluir una llave de tres equipos (Boca Juniors, Racing
Club y Argentinos Juniors) de los cuales uno avanzará a
cuartos de final. Esta llave comenzará sus encuentros el
21 de agosto.La Copa CONMEBOL se realizará desde el 11
de septiembre hasta el 13 de noviembre, y ya están clasificados
equipos de gran raigambre popular y poderío como Palmeiras,
Fluminense, Vasco Da Gama (Brasil), Alianza Lima (Perú),
Guaraní (Paraguay), Independiente Santa Fe y el reciente
vicecampeón de la Copa Libertadores, América (Colombia).
A partir de esta Supercopa se pondrá en funcionamiento
el nuevo sistema de Control de Doping, que será totalmente
neutral pues habrá cuatro laboratorios para tal fin, en
Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay y Chile. Anteriormente el procedimiento
sólo se hacía en la Argentina. Más tarde
se incorporó un laboratorio de Brasil. Esto permitirá
mayores y mejores controles, lo que fue recibido con entusiasmo
por clubes y asociaciones.El tradicional club Vasco Da Gama, de
Río de Janeiro, por conducto de la Confederación
Brasileña de Fútbol, solicitó participar
anualmente en la Supercopa "Joâo Havelange". El
pedido se basó en que esta entidad se había adjudicado,
en 1948, el primer torneo sudamericano de clubes campeones, celebrado
en Santiago, Chile. El Comité Ejecutivo, tras analizar
la petición, resolvió aceptarla en reconocimiento
al logro deportivo y a su verdad histórica. En consecuencia,
Vasco Da Gama intervendrá en la Supercopa desde 1997, con
lo que ya sumarán 18 equipos.
The draw of the 9th. edition of the Supercup "Joâo
Havelange" and 5th. of three teams the CONMEBOL Cup to be
disputed this year, took place on April 29, last, in Asuncion.
A large number of delegates from clubs and associations from all
over the continent, attended the definition of calendars, thus
ratifying the great interest awakened by both competitions. The
Supercup with a table of 17 participants will begin on September
25 to end on November 25, though due to the number of contenders
a key of has to be included (Boca Juniors, Racing Club and Argentinos
Juniors), of which one will advance to quarterfinals. Said key
will start playing on August 21. The CONMEBOL Cup will begin on
September 11, to end on November 13, and several prestigious clubs
with a deep popular tradition, such as Palmeiras, Fluminense,
Vasco Da Gama (Brazil), Alianza Lima (Peru), Guarani (Paraguay),
Independiente Santa Fe and the new Libertadores Cup runner-up,
America (Colombia), are already qualified to participate. The
new Doping Control system will be enforced as from this Supercup
and it will be wholly neutral, since four laboratories have been
appointed to that end, with locations in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay
and Chile. Earlier, the procedure was only carried out in Argentina
and later on Brazil was added to collaborate. Better and more
accurate controls will be possible thanks to the new measure,
which has been enthusiastically received by clubs and associations.
The traditional club Vasco Da Gama, of Rio de Janeiro, requested,
through the Brazilian Football Confederation, authorization to
participate annually of the Supercup "Joâo Havelange".
The petition was based upon the fact that this institution had
attained the first South American champion clubs' tournament staged
in Santiago, Chile, in 1948. The Executive Committee after analyzing
the petition decided to accept it in recognition of the sporting
achievements and historical truth called on by said club. Consequently,
Vasco Da Gama will be disputing the Supercup as from 1997, and
the participants will be 18.
